Concept Statement:

For my animation, I decided to cover an issue around plastic and one of the effects it currently has on the Earth. Originally, my storyboard was a different idea about climate change but as I started working on scenes I found that the idea was too broad with no direction and I needed to narrow down and pick one idea. So I switched over and decided to focus on plastic use which is still contributing to climate change but instead took it in the direction of plastic in the oceans. I picked this topic because I have always had a love for the Earth and environmental science andI feel that this is something people need to know about now more than ever. I chose the turtle as my animal and a plastic bag because titles mistake plastic bags in the water for jellyfish, which is one of their main prey, and they eat the plastic and end up dying. The animation starts with a garbage truck driving down the road when a sudden wind blows it out of the truck and onto the road. Soon after, a crow picks it up and fly's away with it. Eventually it makes it out over the ocean and it drops the bag, where it slowly floats down to the bottom. It floats around for a while and then gets picked up by a current where it happens to start floating in front of a swimming turtle. The poor hungry turtle mistakes it for a jellyfish so it eats it. Not long after the turtle dies and that's end.

As far as the technical aspects go, i used all Adobe animate cc to create every single piece of this animation. I drew everything in Animate but I did find my sound effects from soundable on the internet. I decided to go with a sketchy and playful design because my animation is mainly aimed towards children. I felt that this style would more successfully keep their interest in the topic and make it fun to watch. I used a lot of the tools we learned in class such as bone tool, playing with alpha to make water move, using the camera to make scenes more dramatic, such as when the turtle eats the bag. I also put in sounds and decided against a background song because I didn't want to distract from the lesson.

Reflection:

Overall, I felt that I used my time wisely, listened well and spent ample amount of time working on this animation. I had to mess with multiple scenes many times and it did get frustrating at some points. In the end the product was worth it! I hope thatI some day get to used this in my future classroom and give students the opportunity to play with a unique tool.
