Artist Statement

For our final iMovie art project we decided to go with a humorous and somewhat parody take on typical cop shows. We also incorporated a lesson which is to not litter. Our overall story is about 2 Calder cops who are chasing down a littering madman in the Calder building. In the end, the cops catch the madman and tell him that littering comes with a price.

We were able to complete all of our filming within the allotted 4 hours of class time. We used different parts of the Calder building, the parking lot, a car and the green screen. Many of the scenes were shot with the green screen towards the end of the movie but it gave us the opportunity to put ourselves into different places without having to go there. All three of us, Katherine, Chelsea and Gerardo participated in the filming process. First of all, Gerardo wrote the script, Chelsea drew out our storyline and then Katherine was the lead and completed the concept map. Each team member worked equally as hard as the rest and everyone always showed up to each meeting to complete the assigned tasks. This allowed us to finish out movie ahead of schedule because everyone did their part. Katherine acted as Cop 1, Chelsea acted as Cop 2 and Gerardo was the littering madman. Most of the filming was done by Gerardo when Katherine and Chelsea were in the scenes and then some of the scenes were done by setting up the tripod so all three of us could be in the same shot.

As far as working with the green screen we had a lot of fun. Initially it didn’t look like we were going to use the green screen for many of the scenes but then we realized some of our ideas were too grand for our limited recourses and decided to use more of the green screen to incorporate some of our grander ideas. For the most part working with the green screen went smoothly. Using it set up in the classroom was the easiest and we had no problems with putting an image over the green in iMovie. We did get adventurous and tried putting it over the back of a car so that we could make it look like we were moving without actually moving. For most of the shots it did work but there was one section that we had to cut due to the image being shown on a blue sweatshirt.

None of us have ever worked with iMovie before but we all grasped the concepts pretty fast. It is an easy program to use and anyone can learn to use the program. Gerardo grasped the use of iMovie the fastest and he was able to help with putting all of our scenes together into one cohesive movie.

Overall, we worked together as a team successfully and were able to complete a movie that was longer than our original plan of 3 minutes.
